Once Through the Lips Challenge

Well look at us! We made it through our first challenge!!!!!

*ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR ALL*

I’m itching to give away some prizes, so here’s what we’ll do…Comment below and tell us all how October was for you and I’ll randomly select a few winners from the lot! Did you succumb to the lure of Kit Kats and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? Or maybe that was just me? *guilty face* Did you totally rock the arm challenge and have brag worthy photos to share? Did you do before and after measurements? What trials did you run into? Was it harder/easier than you thought? I admit that October did not go the way that I had planned in my head, and I am hoping to share that with you all. But I’ll do that in another post because we’re gonna talk about the Once Through the Lips Challenge!

This next phase lasts the entire month of November, and it’s aaalllllll about the butt, hips, and thighs.  So get out those measuring tapes and write down your starting numbers! Here I’m including a few links to some good workouts and ideas I found to get us all started.  For those that are not looking to lose weight, but to just tone up these areas, you can probably really focus on these muscle groups and see some amazing results. But if you are like me and are carrying around a little (lot) extra somethin’-somethin’, then keep in mind that you need to burn extra calories to lose weight as well as doing the toning exercises. Alas, you can’t actually target one area and see results if you aren’t doing anything to lose the weight. And while we’re at it, share with us what kinds of cardio activities you plan on doing this month! How much, how often? What are your favorite ways to sweat?

And above all, don’t get discouraged!
I read a statement on Livestrong that made sense to me – if you are an apple shape (like me) then the weight will come off quickly from the hips and thighs, but slowly from the middle. If you are a pear, then it’s the total opposite. It can be hard to slim the hip/thigh area, but you see faster results in your midsection. I don’t know about you all, but I find this to be totally true!

As an extra fun incentive, I was thinking about making up a “photo a day” challenge to help us all stay in touch. (This is perfect for all you Instagramers out there!) But you could also share your pics with the Pretty Little Loser Facebook page as well. I know I know, I’d be missing the first couple days of the month, but at least I’m trying here people!

And of course, I’ll be drawing more prizes, and hopefully adding in the recipe/workout sections for us. And featuring another inspiring Loser! (Did you all read Kandi’s Story here?)

Ok, it’s late and my brain is dying. Is this what it feels like as you get older? Goodness… Here are the workouts I promised! And don’t forget to comment and hopefully win one of our amazing prizes!!

RESISTANCE BAND EXERCISES FOR HIPS AND THIGHS

THE ULTIMATE HIP, BUM, THIGH WORKOUT (video – and might I add that I totally snickered at the end of the video? Watch it – you’ll know why!)

And of course, when all else fails…

Come on now, who’s gonna rock November with me? I fear no pumpkin pie! I laugh in the face of 2nd and 3rd helpings of mashed potatoes! I thumb my nose at caramel salted mochas!!

BRING. IT. ON!!

October started so strong for me & then around the 20th I got sick. Lost all workout mojo for about a week although I did do insanity everyday that we were cooped up due to Sandy & finished strong on Halloween w an awesome run. I ate not one piece of candy which I’m super happy about, losing 10lbs since the 1st. Ready to do it again in Nov! PS I think my arms would be super sexy if I dropped another 10-20lbs!

I started off the month strong and did well until after the 17th. I did a half marathon that day and shaved off 42 minutes from the previous year’s time! I did a workout the monday and tuesday after that and did a small workout at home that thrusday. I’ve lost over an inch on each arm though! I Feel really great about my arms. My daughter’s play is this week and I am so glad I will be able to get back to my normal workout schedule. Last two weeks of October are always the hardest on time because of the fall musical my daughter is in. Let’s go November!

  4. Ariana Kerrigan says:

Started October out strong, ended horribbly!! Looking forward to this months hips, thighs, and butts cause that is where I need the most work!!

  5. Deirdre Salemme says:

October was sporadic for me!! I know I can be more consistent! Ready for November and a new challenge!! And I promise to get the Halloween candy out of my house!!!

  6. Kristen Chin says:

October was all over the place for me, but I managed to pull it together for the last 2 weeks. Looking to stay motivated. Thanks for the challenge!

  7. Justine says:

October started out awesome with new ways to strengthen my arms. Then I got lazy and only did my usual pushups three days a week. My Mother-in-law is a great baker and I allowed myself to eat way to much of a cake she made but stayed away from Halloween candy completely. While it is a small victory, I still consider it a victory.

  8. Mandi says:

I started out doing really well with working out and running.
Then after the 2nd week was not doing so well. I did
Before and after pictures, but I dont see much of a difference
I think I did find a routine that works for me from the
October challenge and learned different work outs from
the other awesome people from this group and even
Started lifting weights. I can tell though if I keep
Trying and keep pushing myself I will see results. Right
Now I’m seeing little results( if that makes sences ) but
Not enough for anyone else to see. My jeans are fitting
Better and certain shirts that were to tight in the tummy
Area are loose. I just want to say thank you to all
The wonderful ladies and I’m glad to be a part of this
Group! Thighs are my worse area and so this challenge will
Be a great one for me!!

Like most others, October started great for me with the arm exercises. I ran a half-marathon on October 20th, and cut 15 minutes off my time. after that, I started Insanity and have made it thru week 1 so far. Didn’t really keep up my arm exercises, but am determined to get in shape, one way or another! :)

  10. Wonder S. says:

Didn’t do as much extra in October as I wanted but I did do more than normal and my arms just measured an inch smaller than they did October 1st! So glad that I joined the challenge to give me that extra little bit of incentive I needed to push myself :)

  11. Denise says:

October was going well, then the sickness struck. Looks like it’s a common October theme. :) Getting back into the swing of things just as soon as I can breathe properly without feeling like I am going to hack up a lung. :)

  12. October was great, lots of upper body, esp planks and push ups, although not as much as I would have liked. No worries about Halloween candy, in Jersey Halloween was cancelled, although during the time that our power was out (4 days) we ate some chocolate!

  13. Stephanie says:

October started off strong..Then half way through it slowed a bit, and then at the end I was going strong again. I can tell a total difference for the most part. I did a challenge for myself NOT to look into the mirror at my naked body for one whole week. During that week I worked my butt off (physically) I squatted, I lunged, I ran, I did arm workouts, upper/lower body , however I did NOT do well with eating. Then at the end of that week I allowed myself to look in the mirror as I was drying off from my shower and I could tell a notice-able difference in my belly/arms/back! I was pretty amazed. Then Halloween hit and I didnt eat as mnuch chocolate as normal, but The first couple days of November have NOT started out well for me because we went out of town…. (The CMA’s) and I ate HORIBLY.. But tomorrow is a new day and I am READY to conquer this month, even though it is my Birthday Month (and Thanksgiving.) I will NOT give up! I will Do this!

  14. Sara says:

October was a great month for running. I finished my first half marathon with a fantastic time of 2:30:10. October was not so good for eating. I think I ate every pumpkin flavored item within a 20 mile radius. I was not into the arm challenge, but I will give the hips/thighs thing a try. I’m a pear shape, and what you said was definitely true. It’s so hard for me to lose weight from there.

  15. October was ok for me. I’ve been having issues with motivation lately so I joined a Boot Camp and registered for a half marathon. The boot camp ends on Monday, but I think I will sign up for 4 more weeks. I have a half marathon on Sunday, so here’s hoping I have got enough runs in this past month!
I am doing 4 week measurements on Monday. I know I haven’t been as strict as I could have been, but gearing up for an awesome November!

  16. I’ve been pretty motivated, although the treats were too tempting to resist. I didn’t do so great with arms last month, but I’m on my 2nd week of Brazilian Butt Lift Master Series, so this is GREAT for me. I am trying to get my bum bum higher and tighter which is not an easy thing to do. I just bought a new pair of ankle weights to help tighten and tone my bum. I was using 5lb last week and am using 6lbs this week. Trying hard and pushing it to the max!! Keep it up ladies don’t give up toil you see what makes you happy!!!

  17. Jennifer Hill says:

October started strong but I got sick about 1 week in and then I just lost modivation for a couple weeks. I did the arm workout only once eekk! Major fail. I did run more than that but I really need November to be better!

  18. Caitlin S says:

Oct started off awesome, then I got bronchitis. I did do before measurements, so I need to see where I’m at. I ran the Army Ten Miler and had put together a group of coworkers for it. But at mile 8 the pain was intense. I walked the 9th mile and then ran mile 10. I wasn’t happy with my time, but considering the pain in my right leg I was happy I finished. E pain never went away and 3 days later I was at the orthopedic. I have a stress fracture in my right foot :( . I manage my downs with food and a hurricane and Halloween aren’t helping, so I don’t even want to step on a scale. I have 2 more weeks before I get re-evaluated and hope to start working out soon!

  19. Krissy J says:

October was great for me in terms of exercise! Ran my first half marathon on Oct 14! It was an awesome accomplishment. Kept pretty active. However, October was TERRIBLE in terms of food. I ate way too much candy (gulp!), wine, cookies, etc. I am starting Weight Watchers tomorrow so hopefully less weight will equal faster mile times! Ready to rock the butt/hips/thighs challenge!!

  20. Christie H. says:

I have a love/hate relationship with October, the leaves begin to change, the air gets crisper. And it is perfect time to start crocheting hats… but then Reeses comes out with their pumpkin shaped peanut butter filled yummines.. as if they aren’t hard enough to resist anyway. I did good, until the day of Halloween, when the tree shaped ones arrived at the store :(. But here is to walking every day, and yarn on hooks to keep my snacking at bay :)
